If you are ever in Spain, find a town with a festival – especially in the Andalucia region of south Spain. There is nothing like it — the beautiful flamenco dresses, conquistadors, bullfights, music, festooned cantinas that pop up everywhere — and absolutely none of it is for the benefit of tourists. This pageantry is part of the culture, and it is incredibly exciting. Next summer I’m going to go back to this town – Ronda – and I’m going to buy myself one of those dresses and a fantastic hat and sit at a sidewalk tavern all day to people watch. Who’s in?
